for the Gifted and Talented

- Students who participate in services designed for gifted/talented students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment. High school graduates who have participted in services for gifted/talented students will have produced products and performances of professional quality as part of their program services.

- Canadian Independent School District recognizes the individual difference in abilities, needs and interests of the school population it serves. An instructional program for Canadian ISD students includes provision for gifted and talented students. Gifted learners benefit from instrucional practices that develop and challenge their unique capabilities while fostering creativity and productivity. A quality service provides both cognitive and affective development. Students are challenged to develop their full potiential and be successful in an appropriate learning envoronment.

- Important to the success of the gifted and talented service is the identification of students who possess unusual potential of high abiltiy in the areas of specific academic aptitude and general intellectual ability. Assessment includes qulaitative and quantitative measures collected from multiple sources.
- Students are assessed for gifted and talented services according to the following guidelines.
- Teachers, counselors, parents, students, or other interested parties may refer students to be assessed for Gifted and Talented services.
- Written parental consent for assessment is required.

- The referral window for students in grades 1-12 is open from November 15, 2024 - December 16, 2024.

- Please submit completed forms to your child’s teacher or campus counselor.

- Testing of nominated students in grades 1-12 will occur January 2025 through April 2025.
- All kindergarten students are assessed through a series of testing events during September 2024 – February 2025.
